Poringland Burial Ground
1. Two clear days notice must be given to the Clerk of the Council for an interment in an earthen grave. Saturdays and Sundays are excluded in reckoning the length of notice. This rule may be waived in special circumstances, or in the case of death from epidemic or endemic disease upon medical certification.
2. All orders must be given and fees and charges paid to the Clerk of the Council before an interment or, in the case of monuments, headstones and other memorials, before they are erected.
3. The certificate for the disposal of a body, or in the case of an inquest, the Coroners Order for Burial, must be produced to the Clerk of the Council before interment. For the burial of a stillborn child an appropriate certificate issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths or the Coroner will be required.
4. Purchasers of graves may select the sites thereof subject to the Regulations of the Council. The Council or their Clerk will determine the sites of unpurchased or common graves or those reserved for cremated remains. Details relating to the situation of each grave are kept by the Clerk and may be inspected without charge by prior appointment.
5. All graves are to be excavated by persons appointed by the Council or authorised by them and, except in the case of children's graves and graves for the reception of cremated remains, are to be dug at least 6 ft. deep. Funeral Directors are requested to scatter soil from graves on to the back of the north and west bank of the new footpath.
6. All foundations of monuments, the removal of or refixing of same, and other work connected therewith must be done under the superintendence of the Clerk of the Council. Any person undertaking such work must use such means as the Clerk directs for the protection of the grass and the walks during progress of the work. Such persons shall, upon completion of the work, clear away any materials not used, or any other rubbish deposited on the site of the works to the satisfaction of the Clerk of the Council, and shall be responsible for any damage done in carrying out and completing any of the above works.
7. Graves will be initially mounded and the Council will remove all grave mounds after the expiry of 6 months from the date of interment.
8. Whilst there is no obligation to erect a monument, any monument to be erected or placed on any grave or in any part of the Cemetery must receive the consent of the Council.
(a) We intend to have a "Lawn Type" Cemetery with no kerbs.
(b) After 6 months memorials may be erected.
(c) All memorials must have the consent of the Council.
(d) All memorials require a cutting base level with the surface grass.
(e) The base is to project 6" clearance all round the memorial.
(f) All headstones must incorporate a flower vase.
(g) No separate vases will be permitted.
Before any monument is placed or erected, a drawing with the proposed inscription must be left with the Clerk for at least 7 days to obtain the necessary approval.
"Any question touching the fitness of any inscription or the design or material construction of any monument erected or placed on consecrated ground shall be determined by the Bishop of the Diocese."
9. The owner shall after erection, notify the Clerk of any change of address, keep all monuments in good repair and unless this is done the Council reserve the right to cause them to be repaired or removed at the owner's expense. If any monument is erected in violation of the Regulations of the Council, the Council without notice may at any time remove the same.
10. No shrubs, plants, flowers or containers of any description may be planted within the Cemetery or on any grave therein nor may any shrubs, plants or flowers be cut or carried away without consent. The Council reserves the right to prune, cut down or dig up and remove any shrub, plant or flower planted without authorisation or which in their opinion has become unsightly or overgrown.
11. All waste materials are to be placed in the receptacle provided.
12. All monuments shall be inscribed with the grave section, row and number to which they relate on the base. No advertising will be permitted
.13. Children under 12 years of age will not be allowed within the Cemetery except under the care of a responsible adult; and visitors will be expected to observe proper decorum at all times. No dogs allowed except guide dogs.
14. No persons shall be allowed to offer goods for sale or to solicit orders for the sale of any goods within the Cemetery. Offenders will be liable to expulsion.
15. Motor vehicles are prohibited from entering the Cemetery other than for the purposes of funerals and in connection with the erection and maintenance of monuments, otherwise than with the permission of the Clerk of the Council. This rule will not apply to any approved means of invalid conveyance.
16. The riding of horses, cycles and motorcycles through and within the Cemetery is strictly prohibited.
17. Every person who shall play at any game or sport, or discharge firearms, save at a military funeral, in the Cemetery or who shall wilfully and unlawfully disturb any person assembled in the Cemetery for the purpose of burying any body therein, or who shall commit any nuisance within the Cemetery, shall be liable for prosecution. The consumption of alcohol within the Cemetery is strictly prohibited.
The Council reserve the right from time to time to make alterations or additions to the foregoing Rules and Regulations consistent with the Burial Acts. The Regulations of Her Majesty's Secretary of State, under the Burial Acts, and applicable to the Cemetery must be considered as incorporated herewith.
TABLE OF FEES & CHARGES
All fees apply where the person to be interred is, or immediately before death was an inhabitant or parishioner of Poringland, or in the case of a stillborn child, where the parents (or one of them) are, at the time of interment, such inhabitants or parishioners. In any other case the fees will be DOUBLED.
PART A. INTERMENTS
1. For the interment in a grave in respect of which an exclusive right of burial has not been granted:-
(i) of the body of a stillborn child or of the bodies of two stillborn children (twins) in the same coffin, or of a child whose age at the time of death did not exceed 12 years... £ 40.00
(ii) of the body of a person whose age at the time of death exceeded 12 years.. £120.00
(iii) Cremated remains (not occupying a grave space).. £90.00
(iiii) Plot for cremated remains purchased in advance.. £30.00
2. For the interment in graves or vaults in respect of which an exclusive right of burial has been granted:-
(i) of the body of a stillborn child, or of the bodies of two stillborn children (twins) in the same coffin, or of a child whose age at the time of death did not exceed 12 years... £ 40.00
(ii) of the body of a person whose age at the time of death exceeded 12 years... £120.00
3. For the interment of cremated remains in a grave in respect of which an exclusive right of burial has been granted... £80.00
PART B. EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS OF BURIAL IN EARTHEN GRAVES
1. For the advance purchase of exclusive rights of burial for a term of 100 years in a double grave not previously used for an interment in strict rotation within the area of the Cemetery in current use... £230.00
2. For the purchase of exclusive rights of burial for a term of 100 years in a double grave not previously used for an interment, purchased at time of interment in strict rotation within the area of the Cemetery in current use... £180.00
PART C. MONUMENTS, GRAVESTONES, TABLETS & MONUMENTAL INSCRIPTIONS
For the right to erect or place on a grave or vault in respect of which the exclusive right of burial has been granted:
1. (a) A headstone incorporating a vase (not exceeding 3ft. in height)... £90.00
  (b) Any additional inscription... £40.00
2. Memorial Plaque for Cremated Remains must be 18" x 18" x 2"... £80.00
